Need opinions from friends...

Hi!
Well, as you can see, I'm experimenting with a new layout. I would like to have real honest opinions about it. Also, I'm considering making myself a seperate icon journal away from greeneyedmissy. I know a lot of graphic makers do this to display their stuff and I wouldn't have thought about it before, but it just seems like a good idea. Again, I'd like opinions on this as well. I really DON'T have to do it, it was just something I thought of. Perhaps those with their seperate icon journals could give me their imput? Do you like it? Do you find it difficult or more work to post your stuff there, then repost on your personal journal? Do you keep your personal journal personal, friends only? Did you shift your friends to your graphics journal or keep there on your personal one? Do you let people join your icon journal or friend them?
Geez, sorry for the million questions! LOL!
Thanks, I'd appreciate anything any of you have to say.

Date: 2007-07-14 08:38 am (UTC)Well and i don´t really see a benefit in an extra icon journal. I don´t know why some people do both. Would be too much work for me.

Date: 2007-07-14 05:03 pm (UTC)May i ask you what layout you use ? Is it a custom made or a LJ standard ? I am trying forever to get a layout where my header has the same width as the rest of the side but i don´t know how to do that :( Unfortunately i have no clue about html or css

Date: 2007-07-14 11:07 pm (UTC)I used a combination of flexible squares and custom css for the layout. The sidebar is definitely flexible squares, I kept it that way and I just changed certain pieces and parts. I'm just learning CSS myself, having worked with HTML for many years. I looked at your layout and I see what you're saying about wanting your header to fit. There may be a way to adjust your layout's width, but it might make where you post rather narrow. Whichever you decide, I'd be glad to help you with it so you can get it the way you want.

Date: 2007-07-15 02:27 pm (UTC)Here is what you have now for your content and left and right bar---
#container{position:absolute; top: 300px;margin-top: 45px; width: 97%;}
#leftbar{ position:absolute; top: 10px; left: 10px; width: 170px;}
#rightbar{ position:absolute; top: 10px; right: 0px; width: 170px;}
-------
If you want your content and sidebars centered back again where they should be, the best thing to do is change the positions from absolute to relative and remove the margin positions, like this:
#container{position:relative;}
#leftbar{ position:relative;}
#rightbar{ position:relative;}
---------
I hope this works for you. You can also just eliminate them all together and it will return to your layout's default. After all, you need to only add additional CSS to what you want to completely change, nothing else.
And a little note as well...if you want to view the source code of anyone's journal, you can right click and go to view source, even in IE. And I don't recommend modifying for just Firefox. IE and Firefox don't exactly get along.
Email me privately at emeraldyeyedmissy@aol.com and if you want to change your layout around, I'll help you with it. ;)

Date: 2007-07-15 03:46 pm (UTC)Hi there,
thanks a lot for your help. But it did not really work with your codes. All the sidebars were on the buttom of the page and parts of the header were hidden behind the main container.
I returned to the code i figured out by myself
#container{position:absolute; top: 300px;margin-top: 45px; width: 90%;}
#header { position:absolute; width: 100%; top: 55px; left: -58px; height: 300px;
As i said, it looks fine when i´m logged in but not if i´m logged out. And in IE the header is 2 or 3 larger than the container.
You said you don´t recommend changing it for Firefox only. But how can i change it for both ??
And another strange thing is: i changed the codes as said above but when i look for the source in Firefox there´s still the old one.
Maybe it´s too hot today but i don´t understand a thing anymore.
Have a nice sunday anyway

And about the firefox thing. I've never dealt with it before, so I don't know to make it work on both, just on IE.

Date: 2007-07-14 10:50 pm (UTC)And thanks for your opinion, I appreciate it. I'm still tweeking colors here and there cuz its mostly on CSS now...ugh...and I'm not used to it as much as I was used to HTML. I'll get there eventually. ;)

Date: 2007-07-14 10:20 pm (UTC)I don't do graphics (hehe) but from what I've seen, most people who have two (one personal and one graphics) usually just set up a community and allow others to join but restrict posting access to just themselves. Personally, I'd rather see you just keep it all in one place. Hope that helps. ;)
